I am not sure how long it will take for a better map than this to be made, but better maps are probably possible. Missile War will certainly last for years to come. Often enemies will spot him and make a frantic attack on his life, and he is not able to get away. An attacker sometimes jumps into the enemy team’s base and waits by their flag for nerve-racking minutes on end until he has a clear route to a pyramid. Once, I waited with Super Bullet and got about six points in two minutes killing would-be invaders before they got a chance at our flag. Sometimes, players wait with Stealth or Laser outside their team’s flag waiting to kill anyone that ventures too close. Some strategy is needed to get the enemy flag anywhere. The laser sniping spots in the middle of the base walls can make some tricky situations during these fights, so Cloaking can be very helpful to get to it. Sometimes these battles can drag on for five minutes or so, but it’s so fun that it feels longer. Team flags can be “passed” to the very center of the map by dropping them over any pyramid. One thing about this map I’ve never seen anywhere else is the amazing flag battles that take place in the middle. The map would probably be better without this ability, but some would argue this point. He gets about six or seven points for making people completely miserable. It seems that after every flag capture, someone is waiting with Laser aimed at the enemy base. Tanks jumping and rotating from beneath them can sit half the way up the wall on top of one of the mesh boxes! This problem is not easy to fix, and may require a new version of the game to have it removed completely. For instance, some walls comprised of several mesh boxes stacked on top of one another have a strange property. There are some problems that are not very obvious, but are clearly bugs. The developers have announced that flags will not be grabbable through walls in BZFlag 3.0. Solution would be to either tweak the above mentioned variable, or make the wall thicker. No final decision on this topic has been made among players, but blast, the person hosting the map, has made the following statement on the BZFlag forum: Some think this is a cheat, but others (many of which are league members) say it is a tactic. In the hollow boxes at the corners of the team bases, a flag placed right against the wall can be grabbed from outside the base. One example is the possibility to grab flags through the wall. There are some less obvious problems as well. It is still one of the best popular CTF maps available now. For me, the very presence of a Genocide flag makes the map less fun. However, if you are a team player, it is not necessary at all. If you just pay attention to player score, you will love the geno flag. One of the most obvious problems is the Genocide flag in the middle of the map. There are many bugs, flaws, and questionable parts of it. However, this does not mean it is a perfect map. One of the most popular maps I’ve ever seen, and my personal favorite for now, Ducatiwannabe’s Missile War will certainly withstand the test of time.
